March 31, 2007 - Paint the Interior |
||||||
Big day today. I was determined to finally paint the interior.
I had put it off as long as possible because I wasn't sure how I was going
to do it. I didn't really want to do it in the basement for fear of
paint fumes wafting throughout the house. But I didn't want to go
through the hassle of moving the fuse out of the basement and into the
garage. Plus the weather was too cold anyways. Gradually I
came to the realization that I would have to do it in the basement.
And I also have come to the point where I can't put it off any longer.
The first thing I did was rearrange the basement to make space for the fuse in the "pink" wing. Joe and I lifted the fuse and swing it around, while Lynnette moved the sawhorses. You can see in the picture below the famouse basement window where the fuse and wings will go through when they leave the basement. When I show people the project, invariably the first question asked is "How are you going to get it out of the basement". In fact, that question was the first one I asked when I was researching the project. That 4' by 4 1/2' window is the answer. |

I finished taping up the interior. I had painted some of the
panels and floors already but decided to put them in to mask the areas
that will stay unpainted. I'm only painting the areas that
are visible; no sense in adding extra weight.

Bruce lent me that industrial strength fan which I put in the window,
facing outside. I covered the open area with a piece of cardboard.
The hope was that the fan would suck up all the fumes and send them
outside. It worked great!

All done. I put on a couple of coats of the Rustoleum Hammered Silver. I'm happy with how it came out. | ||||||
Looking good. | ||||||
