February 8, 2006 - Aft Deck

Ok, let's get back to some actual airplane building.

I started working on the aft deck which I had previously de-vinyled and edge-smoothed.

I opened the notches a little, so that the aft deck fit equidistant down the longerons without any binding, then clamped it on the fuse.  Notice the level across the longerons.  For obvious reasons, it's important for the fuselage to be level at the firewall, main spar and here close to the F-710 bulkhead.  If it's level at all three points, then the fuselage has no twist.  You don't know how happy I am to say that my fuse is level at all three points.  (My luck usually isn't that good)
Next I match-drilled the longerons, using the aft deck as a template.
The longerons are drilled.  At this point the instructions say rivet the aft deck to the fuselage  Fortunately for me I checked the drawings and Dan Checkoway's site first.  Little did I know that I would spend five more hours getting prepared for riveting
