December 5, 2005 - Longerons Bent! |
||||||
I adjusted the left longeron curve, trimmed the aft end and match-drilled
the F-721B aft deck to the longeron.
The next step was to make the downward bend at the forward end. Back goes the longeron into the vise. I beat it with the rubber hammer a couple of times, then layed it flat on the concrete floor and measured how high the forward end was off the floor. When the forward end was 2 3/4" off the floor, it was right. The last step was to clamp a big crescent wrench on the the forward end of the longeron and twist it. It wasn't hard, but I was very, very careful to make sure I was twisting it in the right direction. The right longeron came out fine, then I did the left longeron. It came out fine as well. |

The longerons are done! It was a little nerve-wracking but they
turned out fine. Now I can really go to town on the fuselage.
