December 31, 2005 - Lower Fuselage |
||||||
I started the last day of 2005 by doing some work in the baggage area. I clecoed the horizontal and vertical ribs. The horizontal ribs aft ends required a little trimming. I made swift work of it with the new Dremel tool set at high speed - 35,000 rpm. I also fluted the horizontal ribs slightly.
Then I started matchdrilling. A view from the outside.
|
||||||
I had never gotten around to matchdrilling the seat side ribs to the side skin so I did that next.
Drilling the four stiffeners to the forward bottom skin was a two-man
job since there was no way to clamp the stiffeners for drilling. I
drew a line down the center of the stiffeners. Then we duct-taped
the stiffeners to the skin with the Sharpie line showing through the
skin holes. My son, Joe, pushed up on the stiffener while I
matchdrilled from above. No problemo.

While I was in the belly of the beast, I took this shot looking aft.
And this shot looking forward. I have a few odds and ends to take care of, then everything you see here comes apart for the standard devinyling, deburring, dimpling, cleaning and priming. Then cleco it all back together and rivet. After all that, I'm at the glorious milestone of "Tipping the Canoe".
