February 24, 2006 - Riveting Canopy Decks

I was just about to rivet the canopy decks to the longeron when it occurred to me that I should rivet the side skin to the longeron first.  I studied the drawings carefully and could find no reason not to, so I did.  I was able to do most rivets with the hand squeezer.  Then I riveted the canopy decks to the longeron.  There are a couple of holes that I can't get bucking bar access so I'll pop-rivet them.  I have to order some pop-rivets with longer shanks though.
The right side.  You may have noticed I hadn't riveted the side skins to the longerons on this side, so I went back and did that.  It wasn't a overly difficult, but I can tell you it is easier and faster to squeeze them than shoot them.  Do yourself a favor and rivet the side skins before the canopy decks!
