January 22, 2006 - Pre-riveting

The instructions list a few things you need to do before clecoing the entire mess back together.  The first is to rivet the gusset to the firewall side angle.  But not the angle bracket!
Then you rivet the angle clips to the forward fuse side stiffeners.  When I was fitting these together for initial drilling, I can remember wondering how in the world I would rivet them.
Then you rivet the clips to the firewall side angle.
The next riveting job couldn't be done with the Main Squeeze.  I hadn't fired up the compressor in awhile so I decided to do some preventive maintenance on it.  I changed the oil.  It took me longer to find the instruction book than it did to actually change the oil!
I used the rivet gun to rivet the side skin reinforcers to the F-902 bulkheads.
Then I riveted the F-704 side supports to the side skins.  You only rivet it in a few spots around the spar entry port.  This is the view of the inside of the skin.
And the view from the outside.  You can see the 11 rivets.  Easy riveting with the Main Squeeze.  Because is the wing root area and is covered up with the wing root fairings, you can use universal rivets.
I couldn't find much in the instructions concerning the fuel tank brackets so I decided to do as much as I could in this area while I still had easy access.  I studied the drawings very carefully; it's easy to make a mistake here.
There's nothing left to do but to start clecoing everything together.  I start with the left skin.
A better view.
Now with the right skin.
I pretty much used every cleco I had.
The inside of the forward fuse with the firewall, longerons, bulkheads, stiffeners, gussets, straps and reinforcers.

Tomorrow night, I start riveting!
