August 1, 2006 - Front Panels

Tonight the agenda item was the front covers that attach to the main center spar.  I don't think the instructions say anything about these.  The drawings have everything you need.  I reviewed Dan Checkoway's site and listed the steps he went through.

First I trial-fitted the covers to the main spar.  I had to do quite a bit of filing and trimming before the fit nicely.  Then I used blue masking tape to mark the fuselage side where the angle brackets should go.

I had previously fashioned and primed the angle brackets so they were ready to go.  I match-drilled them to the side -- taking great care not to drill all the way through the fuselage side -- and clecoed them in place.
Then the covers went back on so I could mark the #19 hole locations for drilling the covers to the brackets.  Because I can't easily get the drill in there, I'm going to drill starter holes in the covers on the workbench.  But that's for another night.  It's good to be working on the RV again.  I love flying the Citabria, but I really want to fly this RV!
