April 1, 2006 - Rivet Seats |
||||||
I put in eight hours on this Saturday. First I installed nutplates on the end seat ribs. The instructions and drawings said to install the nutplates on the inside ribs but said nothing about the end ribs. So I didn't do it, thinking there must be a reason. Well, if there is a reason, I never found it. I sure do wish I had done it with the other ribs -- I could have done a much better job of it.
I clecoed the seats back together.
|
||||||
I had to file some of the aft seat floors a little to get them to fit
properly.
I'm kind of stuck at this point. To work on the baggage bulkheads, I need to rivet the baggage floor and sides. But I'm hesitant to do that because I'm not sure how I'm going to run the wires from the tail strobe light and elevator trim. |
||||||
I broke out my Whelon System 6 stuff to see what was what.

The day was going by and I wasn't making any physical progress, so I decided to rivet the seats together. I probably could have squeezed some of the rivets but I ended up just shooting them all with the gun. I find that my riveting quality is best when working on the material positioned vertically.
I had to shoot the seat bottom rivets with the seat in the vise horizontally.
Seats are done! (Well, I still have the brackets to do).
I was banned from the basement Saturday night -- son's birthday party -- so I finished the day by deburring and dimpling (edge holes) the upper fuse skins.
