June 16, 2005 - Fuselage Firewall

I back-riveted the entire firewall.  The key is making sure the bucking plate is flat underneath the rivet.  I had to drill a couple of rivets out early on but soon got the hang of it.  It still took me about four hours to shoot all the rivets.  I've come to understand I don't work particularly fast.  The rivets came out well.  Actually, I was pleased with how the firewall came out.
I used two by fours and particle board to support the firewall during back-riveting.
The forward side of the completed firewall.  Well, not quite completed.  The recess piece, which fills in that big empty square, gets riveted later in the project.  The firewall is completely flush with the exception of the two nutplates at bottom center.
The aft side of the completed firewall.
