October 12, 2005 - Center Fuselage

This is one of the two F-715 side seat ribs.  Unlike the other seat ribs, it is not pre-drilled except for the front not seen in this picture.  At this point, the instructions just tell you what to do, but not how to do it.  This unusual thing about these side ribs is that they are supposed to have a bow in them.  You can see how by looking at the pre-drilled holes on the bottom skin.  Like all ribs, the side ribs have a natural bow in them -- normally removed by fluting.  Unfortunately the natural bow was in the wrong direction.  I just over fluted the rib and it was just right.  I drew a green line down the centerline of the flange as shown for match-drilling to the bottom skin.
Drilling the side seat rib to the center fuse assembly.
Now comes the tedious part.  Drilling all the bottom skin holes.  This was a pain -- literally -- because I had to lean over the skin to get to the holes in the center.  My heavy electric drill doesn't help, either.
All done.  That wasn't too bad.
