Soaring at the Flying Cow Farm

On Labor Day, Bruce and I along with our families headed out to the Flying Cow Farm for a day of soaring and picnicking.

First we had to assemble two gliders, Bruce's new (vintage) Scheibe SF-27 glider, and his Schleicher Ka-8.  These vintage ships don't go together as quickly and easily as the modern glass ships.

My Dad and Howard supervising the assembly.  Or are they just swapping flying stories?  That's the Schleicher Ka-8 in the background.
Break time!  Putting gliders together is hard work.
Jan in the tow plane.
Launching Bruce in his new glider.

Yours truly preparing to go flying in the Ka-8.  I had a great flight -- 1.5 hours.  I got up to 5,000 feet after getting off tow at 2,500.
Lynnette running my wing.
An hour and a half later.  Putting the Ka-8 in the barn.
Then I jumped into the Corben Baby Ace and flew around for a half an hour, never getting higher than 500 feet.
The flying is almost done.  Let the grilling begin!
Burgers and dogs.
Bruce back from a successful flight.
Chowing down.

Picnic dinner.
