November 8, 2009 - Campbell Field Soup on Sunday

This Sunday was a great day for flying:  sunny, warm and light winds.  I wore just a T-shirt all day.   I washed the RV before going flying.   I wore sunglasses while I did it because of the sun reflecting off the polished wings.

Soup on Sunday was ON at Campbell Field so that's where I was headed.

Gordon Campbell took the following picture of my RV at Campbell Field.  I bet you any money that guy in the red shirt is trying to figure out a way to start building his own RV!

I met Steve W. who flies this RV-4 out of Summit.

Nice looking invasion stripes.

Colorful paint job on this one.

An unusual paint job on this RV-8.

Check out that flame on the wing!

I knew about Ralph C. and his RV-6A at Laurel from the Yahoo Mid-Atlantic RV Group but had not met him yet.  He had just finished his Phase I period and today was his first flight out of his test area..  He was happy.

A big Coast Guard C-130 showed up and flew down the runway at 500 feet or so.

A good picture of the CG C-130 taken by Gordon Campbell.

Nice little Taylorcraft.

50+  airplanes flew into today's Soup On Sunday and there were lots of people just hanging out, talking airplanes and enjoying hot dogs, chili, donuts, pizza and cookies.   Photo by Gordon Campbell.

A very nice Cessna 140 taildragger.

I don't know why I didn't get a picture of this yellow RV but Gordon got this good aerial shot.

Well, if you don't want to spend years building your own, and you've got the money, these Cirrus's are very, very nice.  Photo by Gordon Campbell.

The Eastern Shore is perfect for Trikes.  Photo by Gordon Campbell.

After leaving Campbell Field, I flew south down the western side of the Eastern Shore.  I thought this Estate was very nice.

A big industrial area of some sort.

A breakwater made up of half-submerged merchant ships.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel which is 23-miles long  and crosses the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and connects the Delmarva Peninsula with Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.

I turned to the north to fly up the eastern side Barrier Islands.

These islands are uninhabited and very scenic.

It's always fun to fly the Barrier Islands.
