August 13, 2006 - RV8 Flight |
||||||
After a great day of flying on Saturday, I wasn't planning to fly today
(Sunday). But Bruce R. called and asked if I wanted to go flying in
his RV-8 -- an offer I couldn't refuse! I flew the Citabria to Lee
Airport in Annapolis, picked Bruce up, and we flew over to Easton where he
keeps his RV-8.
Bruce just finished his 8 about a year ago. He did a fantastic job on it; it's a beautiful ship. I flew in an RV-6 a year and a half ago but didn't get a chance to actually fly it. Bruce let me fly quite a bit. The performance was awesome. The airplane is incredibly sensitive to the controls. The acceleration on takeoff is striking. We climbed at 2500 fpm! The RV was practically twice as fast as the Citabria. |

I'm used to the Citabria's long wing -- not this itty-bitty short
wing.

We stopped at Miller's Field after making a low, high-speed pass, talked
with Tom awhile over a glass of ice tea, then headed back to Easton.
Man, I can't wait to finish my RV-7!
Bruce did the painting himself -- he did a fantastic job and his scheme
is one of the best ones I've seen on an RV.
