December 7, 2005 - Left Flap |
||||||
OK, it's time to start the flap. The instructions say this is the easiest part of the airplane to build. But easy does not mean quick. It's the same, time-consuming routine. Cleco the thing together. Match drill it. Take it apart. Deburr, de-vinyl, edge smooth and dimple. Yada, yada, yada. First attach the ribs to the spar. |
||||||
Then cleco on the bottom skin. There is no rear spar. The bottom skin sort of curls up and
that's the rear spar.

Now cleco on the top skin. Another peculiarity of the flap is that the leading edge is formed
by the top skin which curls downward about halfway down. Fine with me. Rolling the leading edges
like the elevators and rudder was a bear. Not a lot of fun.
