April 25, 2005 - Emp Tips

The rudder lower tip required some serious trimming, especially around the rudder horn area.  I marked the U-shape as best I could and was just about to cut with the Dremel took, when I noticed some fine lines scribed on the tip.  The lines obviously indicated where you should cut.  My estimated lines weren't even close.  Recommendation to Van's:  notate on the plans cut cut the rudder lower tip along the scribed lines.  I made the cuts along the scribed lines and they were perfect.

Match drilling the lower tip.
I started drilling out a hole for the tail strobe light.  I didn't want to dull my unibit on the fiberglass, so I used my new Rodman bits up to the largest one, then switched over to the Dremel tool with the "gear" grinder bit.
I started working on the Vertical Stab tip.  You want to make sure it is aligned with the rudder tip.  This is the first time I've really put the VS and rudder together;  starting to look like an airplane.
