February 17, 2008 - More Right Wing

Before I drilled the rib to the wingtip, I had better fit the wingtip on the wing.

I was very careful not to strip the #4 screws.  I used boelube on the screw for the first time in the nutplate.  The wingtip butted up next to the wing really well.

Then I fit the rib in the wingtip.  I had to flute the rib flanges up slightly.

These holes weren't predrilled.  The drawings just say a hole every 1 1/2 inch.  So that's how I match-drilled the rib to the wingtip.

I had to be very careful countersinking the fiberglass -- it cuts much easier, mush faster than aluminum.  It would be easy to cut too much.  Then I riveted the rib.  Looks good.

All that is left now mounting the nav/strobe light and installing the clear pexiglass cover.

Next I finished installing the nutplates on the wing for the wing fairings.  I had been able to do the nutplates aft of the main spar while the wing was on the stand, but couldn't get to those forward of the spar.  So I went ahead and did those.

I installed the three AN-3 bolts fastening the fuel tank Z-bracket to the main spar.  There are nutplates on the other side.

Finally I installed the nutplate for an AN-4 bolt on the forward side of the forward bracket.

I broke out my Whelan strobe/nav light installation instructions and started figuring out how it gets mounted.
