February 16, 2008 - Right Wing Tip |
||||||
Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I had drilled the right wingtip to the right wing with #40. For mounting the wingtips, the instructions give you the option of either pop-riveting or screws/nutplates. Two years ago I had bought the wingtip mounting kit from Cleaveland Tools. It has #4 screws so I had to buy a dimple set for them, having had only the #6 and #8 sets. A few months ago there was a thread about screw size and some had said negative things about the #4 screws. My Snap-on screwdriver seemed to handle the #4 screws without problem, and since I already had money invested, I decided to stick with them. I started out by drilling all the wing-side holes to 7/64 to accept the #4 screws. Then I deburred and dimpled. |

Way back when I had installed
aluminum back strips and about 1/3 of the nutplates. I finished up
the rest of the
nutplates.

Nut-plate mania. | ||||||
First I drilled the holes,
countersunk, deburred
...
|

Then I squeezed the rivets. | ||||||
I almost forgot about the wingtip rib! First thing tomorrow, I'm on it. |
