February 12, 2008 - Center Cabin Cover |

I tried putting this -- the center cabin cover ...
... into here. Not even
close. There simply wasn't enough real estate to slide it in
there. I scratched my head for quite a while and couldnt think of
anything. So I posted the question to the Vans Air Force
forums.

One suggestion was to cut the cover
into two pieces. Then fasten them together with angle, screws and
nutplates. So that's what I decided to
do.
First I found some scrap angle and
match-drilled it to the horizontal and vertical
covers.

I figured I will rivet the angle to the horizontal cover, and fasten it with screws to the vertical cover.
How to cut the cover in half? I don't like using the Dremel tool for rip cuts but it was the only way I could come up with. It came out fine.
Now the horizontal piece is easy to install. I think I will cut off that triangular portion of the fuel selector valve cover. It's only required if you have manuel elevtor trim.
The vertical cover piece fits in fairly easily as well. I had to cut a notch out of the right flange where the cabin heat control cable runs through the firewall angle.
