December 14, 2008 - Hang Elevators |
||||||
I got quite a bit done today. There wasn't as many people at the airport so I was able to hunker down and work hard. I installed the elevators. It took quote a while to tight the nuts on the hinge bolts. While I was sitting back there I noticed that with the light coming through the hangar doors, it might make a good picture. The Digital Rebel captured it pretty well. So far I'm happy I went with the polished aluminum look. |

So the wings are on, the empennage is
attached except for the rudder and the canopy is on (sorta). It
really looks like a plane
now.

My dusty elevators attached.
You have to look for it, but you can
see the non-skid attached to the wing. It has the "RV-7" letters cut
out near the top. I have to stand on the wing to get in the cockpit
now, so I figured I better put the non-skid on. I bought it from
Vans long
ago.

One of the elevator hinge bolts with washer and nut installed. I could only turn the nut 1/16 of a turn with the wrench at a time so it took awhile to do all four hinge bolts.
It was easy getting the bolts in with this tool I bought from Avery Tools.
And easy to install the washer with this tool.
