October 8, 2009 - The DeerHunter and the Cub

I took a walk during lunch at work and realized it was a perfect flying day.  When I got back to work, I said to J-Mac, let's take off early and go flying in the Cub.  I didn't have to ask twice.  J-Mac has a couple of tree stands on the Eastern Shore we've been meaning to check out by air in the Cub.

By 5:30 PM we were in the air heading east.

At a blistering 55mph!

J-Mac belongs to a group that pays a farmer for hunting rights to his land.  That's the farmer's house below.  One of J-Mac's tree stands is in the narrow part of the woods in the upper left of the picture.

We saw hundreds of deer flying out.  They'd be in groups standing along the edge of the woods.  J-Mac was so excited, I was worried about him jumping out of the Cub.  (We had the door folded up)

This is what it looks like from the ground looking up at Joe in his tree stand.

Same picture, zoomed in.  If you are a male deer with a big rack, you do not want to look up and see this.  Or you end up ....

Like this 4-point Joe took a  few days after our Cub flight.

And this.

After checking out the tree stands, we headed back and J-Mac took these scene photos.

We'll have to do this again in a few weeks when we have some color.
