November 21, 2007 - Cub Solo over Foliage

I spent an hour on Saturday in the Cub with Max, who taught me how to fly tailwheel ten years ago, getting checked out so the insurance company would be happy.

The weather today was in the 60s, warm for late November, and the foliage still had a lot of color, so I took the day off from work and went aviating in the Cub.

This would be my first solo flight in the Cub.  Because it was so warm, I just left the window and door open.

And all my pictures came out great!  Not having to shoot through pexiglass really improves the photo quality.

Actually, the visibility was cruddy, but from 500 feet it doesn't matter too much.

This lucky guy has waterfront front and back, plus a grass airstrip in his backyard.  Nice!

Notice the crummy visibility in the background.

A tree farm.  I think I might buy a Red Maple tree to put in my front yard.

The color is still pretty good.

I disturbed a large flock of ducks over the Chester River.

That's a hunting blind in the middle of that dead corn.  I'll have to check with Joe the Deerhunter at work to see what they are hunting.

A better look a different blind.

The Cub is an awesome low and slow flier.  Now I know why they are so popular.

I had a great time flying around the big empty fields, along the treeline.

Houses crammed close together like this just seems out of place on the Eastern Shore.

Hundreds of birds were on the river and also on the shore.

Mansions O' the Day.

I passed over this dredging barge on the way home across the bay.

Surprisingly, the color was the highest in the vicinity of Essex Skypark.  There were quite a few golfers playing today on that golf course, enjoying the warm day and fall splendor.

 See what I mean?
