Lobster Run - Trip Home |
||||||
After sightseeing, I climbed up to 4,500 feet to take advantage of bigger
tailwinds. After awhile, the Manchester Airport Class C airspace
looked ahead, right in my path. Usually I divert around airspace
like this but I looked at the chart and saw it only went up to 4,300 feet.
I wanted to get home and didn't feel like diverting five miles to the side
so I climbed a little to be safe and flew over the top of the Class C
airspace. I watched a couple of jet airliners depart and arrive
while I transited. Compared to a Citabria, those jets climb like a
rocket!
I had been to this airport in the summer for business on a day trip. Thunderstorms shut down the entire east coast for awhile, and we ended up sitting in the terminal for eight hours. |

A broken layer of clouds was not to far above me so I climbed intending
to do some cloud surfing. But almost immediately the clouds
started coming together to form a solid layer, so I had to make a
180 degree turn and dive through a hole to get back under the layer.

This is a giant pumpkin field and festival.
The southwest corner of Connecticut probably had the best color of the
entire trip. Also the biggest mansions I have ever seen.
Unfortunately, my camera battery was just about out, so I couldn't take
any pictures.

Heading south down the Hudson River -- New York City dead ahead.
I stopped in New Jersey for gas,
then flew back to Essex Skypark. That night, Lynnette boiled the lobster and here are the results. |

Here we are about to eat the $100 dollar lobsters!
