Lobster Run, Ocotber 2005 - The Next Day |
||||||
The next morning I drove over to our old Condo seen in the middle of the image.
I drove by the medical center where our oldest daughter Lucy was born.

One of the primary purposes of this trip was to buy Lobsters, but the seafood store didn't open until 9AM. While I was waiting I drove around the Naval Air Station, home of the might P-3 Orion, seen here on static display. Four turbo prop engines, the P-3 flies maritime patrol over the ocean, looking for ships and submarines.
This particular hangar is where VP-26 was located when I reported aboard. It is where I started my working career.
The naval air station was pretty dead -- hardly any P-3s on the ramp. A shadow of it's former self back in the early 1980s when the cold war was very real. The base is on the closure list. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to land the RV-7 here in a couple of years if it becomes a public airport.
I stopped at the Seafood Store just outside the Naval Air Station and bought ten lobsters to take back to Maryland. The store was used to pilots buying lobsters. They packed up the lobsters in a cardboard box with a cooling gel-pack and said the lobsters would last 24 hours. Very convenient. Then I headed back to Wiscasset Airport.
A bunch of seagulls didn't like the idea of my taxiing through their "turf".
