October 15, 2006 - Citabria Tow

Another beautiful day like yesterday.  Out at the airport, I finished installing the tow-hitch and then headed west to the Flying Cow airpark.  The foliage was a little more colorful heading west.  I guess it's because of the higher elevation: about 500 feet higher.
It was pretty scenic around this reservoir.
Crossing the ridge before getting to the valley where the Flying Cow Airpark is.  That is someone's house on the ridge below.  I can only imagine what the view is like.

At the Flying Cow, Jan inspected the tow hitch and we hooked up the release cable.  Then Jan got in my Ka-8 glider and I towed him up with the Citabria.  We flew around for a while then Jan towed me in the Ka-8 with the Citabria.  The Citabria towed well and the new hitch worked great.  On my glider flight, I got off at 2000 feet into a nice thermal and zoomed right up to 3200 feet.

I enjoyed a tailwind going back home to Baltimore and Essex, zooming along at 115 mph.  There were a lot of people entering and departing the ADIZ but the controller was sharp and the pilots knew what they were doing and it was all very well done.

I was happy to finally get the tow hitch on the Citabria; it's something that has been in the works for awhile.
