October 15, 2006 - Citabria Tow |
||||||
Another beautiful day like yesterday. Out at the airport, I finished installing the tow-hitch and then headed west to the Flying Cow airpark. The foliage was a little more colorful heading west. I guess it's because of the higher elevation: about 500 feet higher. | ||||||
It was pretty scenic around this reservoir.

Crossing the ridge before getting to the valley where the Flying Cow
Airpark is. That is someone's house on the ridge below. I
can only imagine what the view is like.
At the Flying Cow, Jan inspected the tow hitch and we hooked up the
release cable. Then Jan got in my Ka-8 glider and I towed him up
with the Citabria. We flew around for a while then Jan towed me in
the Ka-8 with the Citabria. The Citabria towed well and the new
hitch worked great. On my glider flight, I got off at 2000 feet
into a nice thermal and zoomed right up to 3200 feet.
I enjoyed a tailwind going back home to Baltimore and Essex, zooming
along at 115 mph. There were a lot of people entering and
departing the ADIZ but the controller was sharp and the pilots knew what
they were doing and it was all very well done.
I was happy to finally get the tow hitch on the Citabria; it's something
that has been in the works for awhile.
