September 27, 2007 - All Grass All Day
Delaware - Maryland Eastern Shore
Part One of Three

Big day today.  The third annual Delware-Maryland Eastern Shore All Grass - All Day tour.  I had scheduled this over a month ago.  Yesterday, Saturday, the weather was horrible and we would have had to cancel.  But by incredible luck, the weather today was absolutely fantastic.  Clear skies, light winds, phenominal visibility.

I invited my friend David along and he's the one who took most of these great pictures.

The business end of the Citabria.

Gotta do that pre-flight.

Hand-propping the Citabria.  This is what you get to do when you forget to turn the Master switch off on your last flight.

As we climb out on takeoff, with the great visibility, you can see the Bethlehem Steel plant on the left and the Francis Scott Key bridge on the right.

Circling over Essex Skypark.

Eastern shore river marsh.

On our say to Smyrna, Delaware.

Washington College, a private liberal arts college in Chestertown, Maryland

Trailer-park snowflakes?

Short final at Smyrna.

On the ground at Smyrna.  We had a good turn out.  Five Citabrias, one Super Decathelon and a Cessna 170.

Left to right:  David (rider), Bob (rider), John, Bill, Tim, Mark, Tom, Peggy (rider), Joe, Dick

Winging our way over Delawre on the way to Jenkins Airfield.

Dover International Speedway.  David had a big zoom lens which he used to shoot the close-up shots like this.

A good picture of the other six Trunk Monkeys enjoying the great weather.

Left downwind at Jenkins Field.

Dick in his Super D just about to touch down.

John on a very short final.

No, I didn't lose my landing gear.  There's a little hedge-row between the runway and taxiway.

LIned up on the taxiway.

Tom and Dick surveying the situation.

Most of the airplanes at Jenkins Airfield have seen better days.

Kind of sad, actually.

Green grass, blue skies and multi-colored taildraggers.
