April 9, 2007 - Right Wing mounted. |

With the right wing off the stand, I realized I hadn't put in all the screws on the top of the fuel tanks. So I did that.
The right wing after last night's unsuccessful mating attempting.
|
||||||
I had put little shims under the left side of the fuse saw horse so the fuse would be level.
My parents gave me this SmartTool for Christmas. It proved
invaluable during the wing mating process. As you can see, my fuse
is pretty darn level.

I trimmed a little off the inboard end of the rear spar with the vixen file. Next I put boelube on the spar and inside of the fuse spar. Then Lynnette and Lucy came down and helped with round two on the right wing. Lynnette was at the outboard end of the wing and moved it up and down. I was at the wing root making sure the male end went into the fuse straight. Lucy was on the other side of the fuse, providing resistence. Once the spar was in enough, I shined the flashlight on the mirror and checked to see if the holes were lined up. When they looked pretty good, I inserted a drift pin in one of the top holes. I had to tape it once or twice with the rubber hammer. Then Lynnette moved the wing up and down slightly while I tapped a drift pin in the bottom hole. It slipped right in. The right wing is mounted!
Next step on the canopy was to rivet the channel frame to the main cabin frame. I had easy access with the Main Squeeze and it came out nice.
Now for the fun part. I peeled all the plastic off the forward
canopy. Then I put on the canopy frame, pushing it gently into the
gap between the side skirts and side weldments. I treated the
canopy as gingerly as possible. I've come this far without a crack
and certainly don't want one at this point.

The canopy looks awesome without the plastic.
