AirVenture 2022 - Airshow

What you do is stake out your place for the airshow in the morning, using your folding chairs as markers.

Airplane enthusiasts getting ready for the daily airshow which runs from 2:30 to 6:30.

Now this is a mistake.  You lay down on one of these "Loungers" and you'll sleep through most of the airshow.

Formation flight of North American T-28s while another large formation approaches high overhead.

Matt Younkin buzzes the field in his Beech 18.

I have a 200mm zoom lens for my Digital Rebel camera which I rarely use.  But I brought it to AirVenture and used it during the airshow.  Here are some of the pics.

Here, the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team does its thing.  Usually there are four ships, but I think on Monday #4 had an engine problem.  He just couldn't keep up and finally just dropped out of the flight.

The T-6's put out some serious smoke.

One of the big Aeroshell T-6s taxiis by.

Some violent rolls leave a corkscrew trail.

Adam Baker tumbles his JET360/LOFT Extra.

One of the Air Force's U-2 derivatives zooms by at low altitude.  They usually like to fly a little higher than this, I think.

Greg Koontz smokin in his Decathlon.

Koontz about to cut the ribbon ...  inverted.

Vicky Benzing putting on a show in her Stearman.

The Red Bull Air Force's Edge gives a good look at its belly.

Kyle Franklin doing the always funny "Ben Whabnoski Comedy Act" in his Super Cub.

It may be a comedy but the routine involves some seriously good flying.

Mike Goolian cruises by in his EXTRA EA-300 with new paint job.

The Red Bull Air Force is at it again.

It is time for the Grumman Cats to fly!  First to taxi for take off is the F8F Bearcat.

Followed by the F6F Hellcat.

Then the F4F Wildcat.

The Hellcat just after takeoff.

I think this is the best picture I took,  I got all four "Cats" in perfect formation and excellent focus!

The four Grumman Cats heading inbound.

The F7F Tigercat claws for altitude.

Two F4U Corsairs on the roll.

Two F-18G Growlers ready to roll.

The spectators are ready for the Wednesday night airshow!

Something must be coming.

It's the F-35, kicking off the Wednesday night airshow.

Heritage flight of F-35, AD-1 Skyriader and P-51 Mustang.

The Opener BlackFly demonstrating its claim as the world's first ultralight fixed-wing, all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft.  Investors in the company Opener include Google co-founder Larry Page.

I had no luck shooting photos at night.  The only good picture I have is this one, taken by Chuck with his smartphone.

I must say the night airshow was spectacular.  It ended with 15 minutes or so of fireworks and pyrotechnics.  A great finale for our three full days at AirVenture 2022.
