Day 8 - Pariah Canyon/Vermilion Cliffs |
Leaving the Grand Canyon, I headed north-northwest to Marble Canyon Airport. From there the plan was to turn west and check out Pariah Canyon.
The area to the right is in the Grand Canyon special air space but I was well above the 8,000 foot ceiling for this section of the Grand Canyon.
That is Marble Canyon airport down below. I would be spending the night at the Lodge there. But I still had a lot of flying to do before then.
A little further up the Colorado River is Lee's Ferry where most of the Grand Canyon rafting excusions start from.
Looking straight down at the Colorado River in Marble Canyon.
Looking south at the way I had come.
To the west is the Pariah Canyon and river.
This is where I must go.
The canyon starts to narrow.
It's like a mini-Grand Canyon.
And then the Pariah River starts to emerge into flat country.
And that was it for the Pariah Canyon. Not bad! I continued west. My plan was to land at Kanab Airport, top off and stretch my legs.
Pretty country between Marble Canyon and Kanab.
Vermilion (red) cliffs. I wonder if these are "the" Vermilion Cliffs.
They are vermilion, that's for sure.
Another rock pyramid. | ||||||
On final at Kanab Airport.
Kanab was unattended but had a self-service fuel pump -- surprisingly low price -- and a nice FBO terminal.
