November 30, 2012 - Wingtip components
With the main ribs and rib doublers complete, it's time to work on the wingtip ribs. Three wings so six wingtip ribs. Although the wingtip ribs use the standard rib jig, they are quite a bit different from the regular ribs. The nose webs are the exception of the lightening holes.
Same with the rear webs:
different lightening holes.
The main difference is that the
wingtip ribs have a horizontal web. This picture gives you the
idea. | ||||||
It took awhile to cut these out and drill the lightening holes.
The horizontal web gets an 1/4" thick edge stiffener on top and bottom. I had to trace them out in pencil on the 1/4" ply sheet.
A closer look. | ||||||
And then cut them out on the
bandsaw. Notice my new helper at lower right.
