June 16, 2014 - Triplane: More Spar Webs

Back in February I had cut, scarfed and glued eight of the 12 spar webs I needed.  I stopped because I ran out of the diagonal grain plywood used for the webs.

I had plenty of straight-grain plywood sheets, and I cut simply cut them diagonally to get what I needed for the webs.  But I wanted to do the spar plates first to make sure I had enough plywood material.  So I did the plates, and now it was time to finish up the webs.  Lynnette helped me to cut the 4' by 4' plywood sheets diagonally into four inch strips pictured below.

These webs would go on the upper wings.  I measured everything, made the diagonal cuts, marked for scarfing, and scarfed.

The four sets of spar webs below represent a lot of work!

I still needed to glue the outer spar webs on the upper wing ladders.   So I did that.  One upper wing spar ladder shown below  -- the outer web is underneath it.

OK, all 12 spar webs complete.  All six ladders have their outer webs glued on.  Making progress.
