May 20, 2013 - Cutting Spar Webs

With the spar ladders glued, the next step is to cover each of them -- both sides -- with 1/8" birch plywood.  So the first item of business is to cut four inch wide strips of ply.

Easier said than done.  What's the best way?  The table saw would be the most accurate, but the four foot by four foot plywood sheets are too unwieldy for my little table saw.  I decided to go with the jig saw.  The cut won't be perfectly straight but it doesn't have to be, since the spar ladders will get planed anyways.

I cut my first plywood sheet into four inch strips.  Later the strips will get scarfed and glued together end-wise.
