Sun 'N Fun 2010 - Camping & Eating
I've been to SNF four times but this is the first time I've stayed in the Homebuilt Camping section. I met the famous Mary Jane who with her Dad run the section. They do a great job. There was always coffee and danish in the mornings, and the big tent pictured here was a great place to hang out in shade and talk aviation with other airplane nuts. I like camping next to my airplane, although I do need to get a better air mattress. You get up early, and you're right there. Camping on the airfield is a fun part of the total SNF experience.
Cool beverages were always available in the tent.
The main SNF area was a bit of a hike away so it was fantastic to be able
to get coffee and cool drinks just a few steps away from your
plane/tent. | ||||||
The mobile shower facility was a quarter mile away -- not
too bad. The shower setup was the best I've ever encountered in at
about 10 SNF/AV trips. Each shower stall had it's own little private
dressing room. That's huge, believe me. The sinks where you
brush your teeth & shave are outside the trailor on the side and in
the middle. | ||||||
We would eat breakfast and lunch at the "Sunset Grill" pictured here which was located in the heart of the SNF area. The prices are a little high for what it is, but I understand the reasons for it, and don't have a problem with it. I'm just glad it's there. There is a bar both inside and outside and I must admit it is nice to sit down and relax over a cold brew.
The first nice Bruce's son-in-law Ray took us out into town to Outback Steakhouse in his new (used) "Club Chateau" van. Ray was very proud! The second night I went to the Van's banquet which was catered and was the best food I had during SNF.
