Sun 'N Fun 2007 - General

That's our brand-new tent in the center.  We did get some rain Wednesday night but the tent kept us dry.  We also had a queen size air mattress which kept us off the hard Lakeland ground.  Since one of the other couples had an RV, we were in the land of the RVs.
Lynnette and Ellen enjoying Sun 'N Fun.  Does it get any better than camping at Sun 'N Fun?  Don't answer that.
Rob and his son Jacob admiring that new Maule.  Rob is a proud Maule owner.
That's me and Mahlon Russell, who works for Mattituck and is renowned for his Lycoming engine knowledge.  I'm smiling because I just ordered a new TMX-360 engine!  Mahlon is smiling because I just ordered a new TMX-360 engine.  The engine should arrive in mid-July.
Sun 'N Fun starts getting crowded in the afternoon.
The AOPA tent with the Cardinal sweepstakes airplane out front, along with one of the "No User Fees" petition boards.  They had no trouble finding people willing to sign it.
People complain that Sun 'N Fun (and Oshkosh) are too commercial.  But I say there are plenty of non-commercial things available for those who are interested.  The Education Forums, for instance.  There were ten tents, each with a speaker on a different aviation-related topic, every hour, from 9AM to 1PM.  That's fifty forums a day.  You could spend half your time at SNF just going to forums!  I ended up going to four:  Flying the Bahamas/Carib, Flying the Western National Parks, Living in Airport Communities, and Vans Aircraft Company on engine selection.  There's a wealth of information available.
There are also Builder Workshops for fabric-covering, sheet metal, composities, electrical systems , welding and engine installations.  I wanted to attend one or two but just didn't have time.  But these are directly geared for the Homebuilder.
I've decided go with the polished-aluminum finish on my RV like this one  -- only the fiberglass cowl & tips will be painted gloss black.
Nicely polished!
Speaking of black gloss on the fiberglass parts, I'm probably going to go with the Loehle Aero Coating system, which is supposed to be very good handling pin holes in fiberglass.  This is the Loehle "5151" Mustang replica.
I tried to attend the "Meet the FAA" session Friday afternoon featuring the FAA Administrator Marion Blakely.  I showed up an hour early but the auditorium was already filled and they weren't letting any more people in.

I found out later that Blakely wasn't there but some other FAA Reps put out the Facts on why Users Fees don't hurt GA and are "fair".  Later on, after the Warbirds fly-by, in the middle of the airshow, I saw a Gulfstream with the government paintjob take off.  Probably the FAA reps off on some urgent matter.  Here is a link to a rebuttel of the FAA's Facts. Link  Users fees would be a stake in the heart of general aviation.

Lynnette and I checked out the Spruce Creek Airport Community just south of Daytona Beach where I would like to live someday.
