September 27, 2008 - Install Garmin GPSMap 496

I waited as long as I could to order the GPS in hopes of a lower price but finally came to the point where I could put it off no longer.  Here's a shot of the Garmin GPSMap 496 in the panel in the Airgizmo dock.

The panel is complete, now.

I quickly found out that to hook the 496 to aircraft power and the wing-leveler autopilot, I needed to order a separate Data cable.  No problem.  Three days later it was in the house.  I just had to butt splice three wires:  power, ground and the autopilot.

The antenna wires and data cable go through the back of the Airgizmo mount as shown below.  I left plenty of slack in wires/cables.  This way I can remove the 496 from the panel dock quickly and easily.
