October 4, 2014 - AOPA Regional Fly-In, Frederick, MD

| This year, the Aircraft Owner and Pilot's Association (AOPA) -- of which I have been a proud card-carrying member for many years -- put on a series of regional fly-ins. Today was their Mid-Atlantic area regional fly-in at Frederick Airport, Maryland which also happens to be the home of the headquarters office. Bruce and I hopped in the RV-7 and headed west to Frederick to check it out. |

We landed and were directed to the parking area on the grass. We shut down and walked over to the main fly-in area.

There were a number of aircraft on static display including this fancy gyro-copter.

| Rides in a B-17 Flying Fortress were available. It was neat to see the B-17 take off and land periodically. |

| The great aerobatic pilot Michael Goulian was on hand and did an airshow routine for the crowd. |
| |
 |

People were all over the airplane after Goulian's show.

I've saw this sleek L-39 jet at the Dulles Airport "Be a Pilot Day" even a few years ago.

| This is AOPA's "Reimagined" Cessa 152 which is a completely restored airframe plus overhauled engine. Basically a new airplane. |

| An immaculate Stearman Model 4. You could have bought one new in the 1920's for $1,600. |

| There were a few big-ticket airplanes on display like this signle-engine turboprop. |
| |
 |

And then there were those with a little less power like this Legend Cub on floats.
AOPA had put out an unusual arrangement for lunch. They had 15 or so food trailers in a semi-circle, each offering something different. And get this, if you were an AOPA member, you got your lunch for free!
There was also a large tent filled with vendor and exhibit booths.

| We didn't see Mark M. at the fly-in but we spotted his Super Chipmunk right away. |

| There weren't too many experimentals and homebuilts at this fly-in but there were a few, including this RV painted in US Navy colors. |

After leaving Frederick, we decided to go check out the old Flying Cow airstrip where Bruce and I spent so much time flying gliders and hanging out.

The place still looks exactly the same.

Of course, we had to check out Harper's Ferry as well. This is from the west side looking east.
