December 1, 2012 - Cambridge & RV3

The weather had looked promising all week for today's annual Holly Run to Tangier Island.  There were fifty planes lined up including our group of 7 RVs, a CJ and T-34.  However, the mid-atlantic area woke up to fog and low overcast.  The morning's forecast said it would burn off around 9AM so I drove out to the airport.  It finally burned off at Essex around 11:30, but it never did clear at Bay Bridge Airport, where the Holly Run was staging out of, so the Holly Run was pretty much a bust this year.

I ended up flying to Cambridge for lunch around 1PM.  Bruce in his RV-3 and Brian in his Cherokee went also.  We met three Easton RVs there as well.

Here's a nice shot of Bruce is his new toy:  the RV-3.

On the ground at Cambridge.

You can really see how tiny the RV-3 is in this picture.

Brian's Cherokee.   The AOPA Cessna Caravan landed right after us.  It ended up ferrying the holly down to Tangier Island.

Three three Easton RVs.  Left to right:  Jim (RV-7), Richard (RV-8) and Bruce R. (RV-8)

We had a nice lunch at Kay's, the on-field restaurant at Cambridge Airport.  A thumbs-up for their Cheeseburgers.  Here Brian and Art about to start up for the trip to home.

I hadn't seen Jim's RV before.  Here I am admiring the workmanship of his airplane, which was superb.  Check out that faded-in checkboard paintjob!

I took off with the Bruce and Bruce and we had a little fun flying around before heading for home.

Well, the day didn't go as planned but at least we got some flying in.
