September 13, 2015 - Fun Fly over the Eastern Shore |
I did some maintenance on the RV and then rewarded myself for a job well done by a fun flight over the Eastern Shore. As I usually do, I fly over North Point and the Fort Howard area. Patapsco River to the right; Chesapeake Bay to the left. |
Looking west at Sparrows Point. The Key bridge is in the background with Baltimore to the right in the distance.
A closer look at Sparrows Point which used to be the home of Bethlehem Steel, known for steelmaking and shipbuilding. At one time, this area was home to the world's largest steel mill and in 1940 was the number one U.S. shipbuilder. It's all gone now. The only action left is environmental cleanup.
Rigging a RORO ship. Roll-on/Roll-off or car carrier.
Rigging a sailboat. Looks like an older type.
Hawk Cove, just west of Hart-Miller Island. In the summer, this area is packed with boats. But summer is over, and the boats are gone.
Cruising the Chester River.
Instead of the green of summer, starting to see the yellows and browns of fall.
Climbed to play above the clouds.
Things look much different up high.
One of the Creeks off the Chester River.
Notice the blimp in the middle of the picture. The blimp is tethered by a wire in the Aberdeen Proving Ground airspace. The blimp has high-tech radar and surveillance equipment supposedly to detect low-flying cruise missiles. Yeah, right.
On long final at Martin State Airport which surprisingly has the lowest AvGas prices around.
Now you can see two blimps in the picture.
A big fancy bizjet lands at Martin State.
Looking down at Martin State Tower and the bizjet after takeoff.
