July 12, 2014 - Golden Age Air Museum Fly-In |
I havn't been to the Golden Age Air Museum in awhile; it's time to get my Triplane fix. I met Mugsy and Chef at Smoketown for breakfast. Then we flew over to Grimes, Pennsylvania. On the ground at Grimes. |
Of course I headed straight for the Fokker DR-1 Triplane.
There were a fair amount of planes on hand at the GAAM Fly-In.
Gotta like the Navy paintjob on this RV.
Mugsy photographing the GAAM Sopwith Pup. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate so we didn't get to see the WWI planes fly.
A close-up of the Triplane.
The GAAM is building a Spad 13 and is making execellent progress.
The wing ribs are done.
The fuselage is coming along nicely.
The original's fuselage was made of wood, but the GAAM is going with welded steel tubing. It's lighter and stronger.

Triplane and Pup with the red Jenny just to the right of the Pup.
My friend Tim's new ride.
Meat on the hoof.
Delta Delta still looking good.
Panzerblitz.
You don't see too many of these around any more. It's the old Mercury Cougar, one of the great 60's cars. I knew three guys who had them, and drove theirs a little. Great car.
Another Cougar looking good.
They announced on the PA that weather was coming, and put away all the GAAM planes. It's a good thing they did, because the rain did come and came down hard for twenty minutes or so.
Mugsy and I had to dodge a thunderstorm just to the south of Grimes but once we got around that it was an uneventful flight back home down the Chesapeake Bay.
