September 15, 2012 - Annual Essex Skypark Wings&Wheels Fly-In

It was that time of the again, the eagerly-awaited, premier event that is the Essex Skypark Wings & Wheels Fly-In.  We had a beautiful day for it.

The radio-control guys were showing off their stuff.

The turnout was decent, both spectators and planes.

There was even a radio-controlled RV.  I asked the pilot how it flew.  He said, "just like an RV!"

Richard S.'s RV-8 next to the Air Cam.

Bruce & Paul checking out "Double Trouble".

I've seen that Super Cat at numerous fly-in's over the years.

Bruce sold his Cub yesterday.  Today he is making the last flight in his Cub, ferrying it to the new owner at Gettysburg.  If you look closely at this picture, you can see a tear glistening on his cheek.

The Cub makes its last takeoff from Essex Skypark.  This Cub was built in 1941.  It's hard to believe this plane is 71 years old.

Farewell, Cub

There were some neet cars at the show.  I liked this Oldsmobile 98.    It's a big lead sled.

Some older stuff was present as well.

I flew the RV over to Gettysburg to pick Bruce up.  Of course I had to fly over the Battlefield, pictured below.   Pickett's men emerged from the woods in the top of the picture.

Over Gettysburg airport.  You can see Bruce's Cub in front of the hangar near the top.

On final at Gettysburg.  Bruce and I enjoyed a tailwind on the ride home which only took 20 minutes.
