May 25, 2014 - RVs visit Cedar Meadows

Passing over Frederick Airport headed west out to the Shenandoah Valley for an open-house at an RVer's personal grass strip.

I passed by Harper's Ferry and headed out into the valley.  Here I'm passing just to the north of Charles Town, West Virginia.  Charles Town is noted mostly for its horse racing track.   A high school friend took me there once long ago to bet on the ponies.  I sure don't remember winning so I guess I lost.

A big car racing facility is just east of the grass strip.

A good look at the grass strip, called Cedar Meadows.  The hanger is roughly midfield on the right side.  You can see a bunch of RVs already there.

A closer look at the race track.

Before I arrived, Chef, Jolly, Lawbreaker and Condor did a little formation over Cedar Meadows.

Chef, Condor and Jolly debriefing the flight.

Condor and Jim.

Hangar flying in Jim T.'s hangar, next to his shiny RV-4.

Fernando arrives shortly after me.

Chef, Jolly, Condor and Vlad's aircraft parked out back.

I'm parked out front next to a Super Decathelon flown by Jim's son.

Parked next to Lawbreaker's RV-8.

A better look at Vlad's RV-9.

Jolly starts up.

Condor heading back to PA.

Chef makes the obligatory low pass before heading home.

Lawbreaker looking good down low.

Smoke'em if you got em!

Chef rolling in hot.

Here comes Lawbreaker again.  Paparazzi are ready.

On the way home, I flew by the old Flying Cow farm, where I spent so much time flying gliders.  Jan sold the tow plane, cows and farm a few years ago and moved back to Norway.  I saw the below and my first thought that only the runway was being mowed.  But on second glance, it looks too narrow for a plane to land.  Now it's just a golfcart path to the other side of the farm.

A closer look.

The little town of Lovettesville has really expanded in the last few years.  All those houses at lower right were not there when I flew gliders overhead.

The Potomac River meanders to the East.   That's Point of Rocks bridge down below.

No football players visible at the Baltimore Ravens complex.

Visibility was outstanding.  Approaching Baltimore city.

Looking south at the Patapsco River and the Key Bridge.
