February 15, 2013 - Georgetown, Delaware

The weather was good this Friday, and was not supposed to be good all weekend, so I took a day off from work and went flying with the Bruces.   It was warm enough at the Skypark that I didn't even need to wear a jacket.  The air was smooth, although a little hazy.  I flew over to Easton Airport and met Mugsy there.  I like flying into Easton.  The tower controllers there are friendly and seem to like RVs.   Mugsy and I did a form takeoff -- side by side -- and headed east to Georgetown, Delaware.

Here I am on long final to Sussex County Airport in Georgetown.

Bruce B. landed right after we did in his RV-3.  The ramp was full when we landed:  two Lake amphibians, a classy looking RV-8 in British markings, a Sonex, an Aircoupe, and two big Business Jets.   All left while we had lunch at the airport restaurant.

I don't know what the deal is but Georgetown Airport's claim to fame is that they have all these old Soviet MiGs sitting around.  I doubt they will ever fly again but its kind of neat to be able to see them up close.

Looks like a two-seat Mig-17, and a CJ that has seen better days.

We now have the ramp to ourselves.

The airport restaurant is just above the RV-3's canopy.

The three of us took off and headed due east to the ocean shore.  Along the way we passed this shack on Rehoboth Bay.

We turned south once we hit the shore.   We passed this neat looking bridge at the mouth of Indian River Inlet.

Flying down the beach at Ocean City, Maryland.  I took a little detour inland.

We turned northwest after we passed the Ocean City boardward.

Heading northwest back to Cambridge-Easton-Essex Skypark.

We flew over Laurel Airport (N06) which is a grass strip and home of a big skydiving operation.  Not much going on today, though.

Mugsy split off at Easton and Bruce B. and I flew back together to Essex Skypark.

In the pattern over Essex Skypark.  Nice flight today.  Much better than sitting in the cubicle at work!
