March 16, 2013 - Essex Skypark 99-year Lease,
RV-7 Conditional Inspection
Although today' weather was better than forecasted -- forecasted 70% rain but it never rained -- and flyable, it was still pretty crummy and not worth the effort.
We had our monthly Essex Skypark Association meeting at 10AM. Today, celebrations were in order. Yesterday, the 99-year lease was officially signed. As long as we abide by the Lease's terms and conditions, Essex Skypark should remain an airport for 99 years! It took a lot of people a lot of work to make it happen. Fourteen months ago, things were pretty dire. Baltimore County, which owns the airport, informed us that we were on a month-to-month lease basis and wanted to know what our exit plan was. Now the airport is secure -- as much as these things possibly can be -- for a very long time. The airport probably won't be necessary in 99 years. By then we'll just get "beamed" to where we want to go. We'll just have holographs or virtual scenary for the sightseeing. Simulators for dogfighting!

Anyways, we all enjoyed eating the nicely decorated cake below.
Well, it's that time of the year again for the annual Conditional Inspection. Actually, I like doing it around this time since not much is going on flying-wise. The good flying weather and all the fly-ins won't start for another month or two.
So, after the meeting, I started taking the plane apart. Everything comes off: spinner, cowl, wheel pants, fairings, wing inspection panels, and all sorts of things in the cockpit. I worked hard for three hours and got almost everything off before my electric screwdriver ran out of juice.

The following week, I took a day off from work, inspected the plane, fixed a few things, and put it all back together. The RV is ready for another flying season.
