March 10, 2012 - Lock Haven, PA

Bruce and I went to the Essex Skypark Association meeting in the morning, then hopped into the RV and headed northwest to Lock Haven, PA to check out an RV-6 a friend is thinking of buying.   Flying conditions were excellent.   Here's a nice shot of Baltimore.
  
Was flew by this big fire just south of York. 
  
Lock Haven is just on the other side of the ridge ahead of us. 
  
Over the town of Lock Haven.  the airport is top center.   The West Branch of the Susquehanna River runs through the town.
  

Runway 27 has a right-hand pattern since there is a good size ridge on the south side. 

The Piper Aviation Museum building is on the right side of the image.   The FBO building is on the left side.

Short final for 27 Right. You can see the outline of 27 Left on the grass. Normally I'd land on the grass if I could but it's not a good idea in the winter in the RV. There is a good chance the ground might be soft and I could get stuck in the mud or worse.
 
The area to the left of the grass runway is where all the Cubs are parked during the annual "Sentimental Journey" Cub Fly-In.   I attended this fly-in five years ago:  Link.  Great fly-in. 
  
Brian heading for the FBO building.  He flew up in his Piper Cherokee. 
  
Brian's Cherokee is on the left.   The airplane was actually built here.   The Piper Aviation Corporation was based here from 1937 to 1984.  Bruce's Cub was built here as well. 
  
I met Jim D. who built the RV-7A pictured here.  Jim's RV is pretty much done and ready for inspection.   His workmanship is outstanding; he'll have no problem passing the inspection.  Soon he wearing the RV grin and having great fun flying the RV all over the place. 
  
This is the RV-6 Brian was interested in.  Again, the workmanship was outstanding on this airplane. 
  

Seller and prospective buyer engaged in serious negotiation!  

Bruce and I enjoyed a nice tailwind on the flight home.
