AirVenture 2009 - RVs

At the peak, which I would say was Tuesday for homebuilts, there were so many RVs that I couldn't even walk through all of them.  (My feet were killing me).  The following images are just the ones that caught my interest.

Wish I could have seen this one with the canopy cover off.  The spinner is kind of neat.

I liked this paint job too.

I snapped a picture of this one to show my Dad who has a lot of Cal friends.

Wild dragon scheme.

I always like the U.S. Navy paint schemes.

Tony Spicer's RV-3 with the pretty turquoise paint job.

I knew that Kirk, a fellow Mid-Atlantic RVer, had gotten his RV-8 painted after a World War II P-51 Mustang named Dakota Queen, but I hadn't seen it yet.  Here it is, looking great.

Later on, I just happened to catch Kirk taxiing out.

I always have to take a picture of Beautiful Doll.

Doug Reeves, who runs the Vans Air Force web site, had his RV-6 at the Van's booth.

I found this amazing RV-9 over by the AirVenture 2009 Brown Arch.  The entire plane was airbrushed in an aquatic paint scheme.

There was a different mermaid on each cowl side.

A majestic sailing ship on the tail.

A Killer Whale on the left wing.

I wonder if you'd ever want to fly a plane like this, for fear of getting bugs on the immaculate painting.

Equally impressive was this flame-covered RV-3.  Picture taken by Chris Pratt.

Incredible. Picture by Chris Pratt.

Credit for this picture goes to Frank Smidler.  The guy in the picture is Dave Sloan, owner/builder.

Stu "Falcon" McCurdy leading 37 RVs out for their gigantic formation flight.

One of the 37 was this brightly polished RV-8.

The 37-ship RV formation doing its thing.

Someone went along as a passenger and took these great pics.

What can you say?

What a thrill it must be a part of this.

During the airshow, a six-ship RV team did a little show.

I went to Doug Collin's "Piece of Grass" Wednesday evening and enjoyed talking with the other RVers.  Doug Reeves took this picture and that's me in the middle of the picture wearing the pink Vans Air Force T-shirt and Blue hat.

I have to close out with a picture of my own RV which represents five years of effort and over 3000 man-hours.
