AirVenture 2009 - Flight Home

Although the forecast for Sunday wasn't promising, we stayed Saturday night to watch the Jeff Dunham show, which was very good.

Arjan had departed Saturday so it was just Mike/Karen in his 7A and Hunter and I in my 7.  Here we are taxiing behind a Mitchell B-25 bomber.  Only at Oshkosh!

Approaching Chicago from the North.

This is a shot of my friend Frank's house just north of Loyola college.

The new Bears stadium.

Hard to believe Meigs field airport used to be on this strip of grass.  Then Mayor Daly just had it bulldozed inthe middle of the night.  Out of control government.  Don't think it can happen again?

We stopped at Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal airport (1D2), just outside of Detroit, to drop off Hunter.

The FBO building at Mettetal? -- I'm not sure what name to call this airport.

We climbed high to get above the broken layer, picked up a strong tailwind, and zoomed home.

It was pretty scenic, with the blue sky, white clouds, and green terrain.

We averaged over 200 mph all the way home.

On the southern edge of Lake Erie.

The forecast hadn't looked too good for getting over the Appalachian mountains.  But we were able to fly right over it.  At one point, we had to fly between some build-ups on each side.

But then we were through.

Mike/Karen peeling off to enter the SFRA while I continued east.

Safe on deck at Essex Skypark!  Great trip.
