AirVenture 2009 - Airshow

After Monday's show was washed out, I watched the entire airshow Tuesday, then only occasionally for the rest of the week.  Everyone has seen the Extras, Edges and MX-2's a million times so I just took pictures of the unusual acts.

Here's something you don't see every day:  a jet-powered glider.

T-28s were all over the place; it was their 60th anniversary.

T-28 formation.

Bobby Younkin putting on a show in a twin-Beech.

Kyle and Andrew Franklin wingwalker act.

This helicopter was doing loops and rolls -- incredible.

This is what my RV is going to look like one of these days.

It was great to see the mighty F6F Hellcat in flight.

This T-28 had a unique smoke system.   Pencil-thin smoke came out of each wing tip.  After awhile the wind would turn it into smoke rings and the pilot would dive through them.

I didn't take a shot with my own camera for some unknown reason, but I really enjoyed watching Greg Koontz perform his routine in his Super Decathelon.  He did outside loops and even a forward tumble, all below 2000 feet.  Seeing an Extra or MX-2 do it is one thing, seeing a Super D. do it is another.  You can fly down to Koontz's private strip for aerobatic lessons while staying in his bed and breakfast.
