Oshkosh 2003 - Interesting Airplanes

No idea what this funky looking plane is.  But it's for sale and Bruce is checking it out!

And the S-39's little brother, the Sikorsky S-39.  As you can see, one engine instead of two.

Also one of the star attractions, a Sikorsky S-38.  Lindbergh owned one and Herbert Fisk Johnson Jr., of Johnson and Johnson fame, explored northeast Brazil in one, searching for carnauba wax.  This plane is a replica of the "Spirit of Carnauba".  There's a nice exhibit about the journey, including a mockup of the fuselage, in the EAA Museum.

A brand-new Lake Amphibian.  The owner of Lake Aircraft Company is a friend of mine.

His company also builds the Micco, a single engine aerobatic airplane.

A big old Ford Tri-motor.

Grumman Goose amphibian.

Not sure what this is, but I like the tiger stripes.

A nicely-built MiniMax in pre-World War II U.S. Navy markings.  Like it!

An ultralight flying boat.

A primary glider.  It must be a thrill to catch a thermal in one of these.
