November 15, 2008 - Prepping the Cowl for Priming (again) |
||||||
I filled the top with Rage Gold filler and then sanded. The Rage Gold did a pretty good job filling the little holes, depressions and scratches. Not perfect, but pretty well.
After countless hours sanding
the cowl halves are ready for WonderFil. I used a sanding block
where I could. Next I used the little 2 by 4 thick rubber
squeegee as a flexible sanding block. Finally I would just have to
sand the steep curves by
hand.

||||||
I wiped on the WonderFil. It dried to a white powder in about 20 minutes.
Half the top cowl with WonderFil and
the other half without.

I wiped off the dried WonderFil. All holes, depressions and scratches now have white filler in them. You can see on the bottom cowl corner where I didn't do a very good job of filling. Those holes are too big for the WonderFil to handle; they'll need filling with Rage Gold.
A closer look at the area that will need more filling.
Lots of scratches on the bottom cowl. I used 150 and 220 sandpaper; that might have been too course.
The top cowl after WonderFil.
Look at all the filling that was required.
