January 8-11 - Vacation in Marathon, Florida
Bruce & Ellen were renting a place down in Marathon, Florida and invited us down for a few days. Other than a cruise ship stop in Key West, we had never really be down there before. We flew down to Lauderdale commercial, then rented a car for the drive to Marathon. The weather was good enough that I could have flown the RV -- but it would have cost a lot more. Maybe if we go to Marathon again next year I'll fly the RV. I'd love to see the Keys fro the air in the RV.
We had pretty good weather our first full day -- Friday --
and were able to hit the beach. Unfortunately, it was cold and windy
the rest of the weekend. And it rained all day Saturday.
I think it was a record low temperature for the Keys.
Fortunately, the place had a hot tub, and we made full use of it!
Bruce's boat tied up in the backyard.
Actually, the little boat on the left is Bruce's.
Still beats Maryland in January anytime.
Driving to Key West, a tree growing out of an abandoned bridge. Right out of the "Life after People" TV show.
Driving to Key West Sunday morning. Yeah, it's a
little windy. | ||||||
It it had been a normal Key West day, I'd have gone for a ride in this amphibian ultralight. Oh well, maybe next time.
Saturday morning Bruce and I went to this EAA Air Museum
at Marathon airport, which was right across the street from where we were
staying. Wasn't much to the museum, but they were having a Chapter
get-together of some sort and we enjoyed talking with some of the
local flyers. | ||||||
One of the guys showed us his Legend Cub amphibian. Brand new airplane. It was perfect.
Check out the tailnumber. My RV is N18LC. This is the perfect plane for the Keys.
