December 23, 2007 - Cub and Baby Ace Teardown |
||||||
Bruce is going someone cover the wings and fuse of his Cub. He asked me if I could help him take the wings off. We headed out to Essex on this rainy old day. He had already stripped quite a bit of fabric off the Cub and the Corben Baby Ace.
The fabric comes off a lot faster
than it goes
on!
|
||||||
Baby Ace fuselage. EAA Chapter 175 in Florida built this plane over a period of 20 years, finishing it in 1984. Bruce and I bought it in 2003. I flew it from Miami to Baltimore.
One of the reasons Bruce wanted to
restore the Cub was because of the badly dented leading
edges.
|
||||||
The Baby Ace wing ribs are all wood.
Cub fuselage. | ||||||
Looks a lot different now than it did in the air, doesn't it?
I hope Bruce improves the Baby Ace's
panel. This is pretty
bad.
|
||||||
Bruce's Cub was built in 1941.
We got the right wing off fairly
easily.
|
||||||
The Cub right wing. The Cub has aluminum ribs. Wood spars, though. Just like the Citabria and Baby Ace.
Good look at the Baby Ace fuselage.
Cub right wing from the other end.
Getting ready to take off the left
wing.
|
||||||
Not one, but two projects! Three if you count the Xenos back home. Somebody stop him!
What's up with that ugly burnt orange
fuselage
frame?
